The rare "GG" - Grosse Gewachs

"GG" - Grosse Gewachs
(Great Growths of Germany)
For a wine to be labeled Grosse Gewachs the fruit must come from one of Germany's Grosse Lage Vineyards,a designation used only for Germany's very best vineyard sites - small, carefully demarcated areas with clear site-specific characteristics. Yields on these sites are limited to 50hl/ha. These wines are fermented to dry and represent the finest expression of Dry Riesling coming from Germany. Very little is produced and even less gets exported so we are very excited to be able offer these amazing wines from Schafer Frohlich.

2012 Schäfer Fröhlich Riesling Bockenauer Felseneck Grosse Gewachs....$77.99
The 2012 Felseneck Riesling Grosses Gewächs is a fine follow-up to the utterly magical 2011 version, offering up a deep and marvelously defined bouquet of tart pear, pink grapefruit, wild yeasts, petrol, complex slate tones, citrus zest and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure, with a great core of fruit, ripe, snappy acids, laser-like focus and superb length and grip on the nascently complex and very, very promising finish. Great juice.

2011 Schäfer Fröhlich Riesling Schlossböckelheimer Kupfergrube Grosse Gewachs....$72.99
White peach, grapefruit, and pineapple allude to their pits, pips, and core; yet, this finishes with clarity and fineness utterly free of bitterness; saturated with pungent minerality; and daring you to resist the next sip. A real tour de force, it should merit at least a dozen years’ attention.

2007 Schäfer Fröhlich Riesling Bockenauer Felseneck Grosse Gewachs...$77.99
A greenhouse-like diversity of foliage and flowers combines with fresh berry, herbs, and citrus in the nose of Schafer-Frohlich’s 2007 Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Grosses Gewachs. With an unusually lithe feel and primary juiciness for a wine of its genre, this saturates the palate with herb-tinged grapefruit, white peach, and yellow-plum, finishing with fantastic length, intricate interaction of fruit and intriguing mineral notes, and irresistible sheer refreshment. Plan to follow some of this for 10-12 years, but don’t miss out on some in its youth, either!
