A couple of 96 point Rhones

2010 Domaine de Cristia Chateauneuf du Pape Vieille Vignes....$79.99

Very expressive, with layers of lush blueberry coulis, fig paste, currant confiture and melted red licorice all wrapped with toasted spice and coursing through the vivacious finish. A gorgeous display of fruit, with the spine to keep it balanced. Drink now through 2027. 330 cases made. –JM
Rated 96/100 The Wine Spectator
Rated 95/100 The Wine Advocate

2010 Domaine de Cristia Chateauneuf du Pape Renaissance....$71.99

This has a lot going on, with dark ganache and espresso followed by roasted alder and juniper notes, before the core of plum, blackberry and steeped black currant fruit finally starts to assert itself. The long finish lets bay and tobacco leaf notes stride through, with a tarry edge as well. Shows great character. Best from 2015 through 2030. 500 cases made. –JM

We have a crisis.....

I am off today and apparently our van comes to Forsyth to pick up stuff including the Goose Island Bourbon County Cherry Rye and Coffee Stout ---

He breaks the bottle of the Coffee, yes it is true -----------

I did not believe them either, so I asked for a picture.....

So this will obviously no longer be available at our New Ballas Expansion as planned....

we are replacing it with another very rare bottle
Cantillon Fou Foune
(as long as it does not get broken)

So now the two bottles featured will be...
Cantillon Fou Foune
Goose Island Bourbon County Cherry Rye

still need to visit our New Ballas location for details on how you can get these two because of Missouri state law

Benton's Bacon

It is back!!!

(back in stock at Forsyth only)
Benton's Smoky Mountain Bacon...$11.99 /lbThis bacon is smoked the old fashioned way for two days.

"Our hickory smoked country bacon is equally at home on a bacon, lettuce, and vine ripe tomato sandwich or on the breakfast table as it is wrapped around a premier cut of beef or a fish fillet. Hickory smoked in our smokehouse using an old-fashioned wood stove, each slice of our bacon has a distinctive full flavor that has attracted and maintained a broad spectrum of customers, from those looking for smoked bacon “the way grandpa made it” to gourmet chefs with the most distinguishing of tastes." -- Bentons

Their bacon has been featured in Gourmet Magazine, Saveur Magazine, and Southern Living Magazine.

Their bacon has been featured in Gourmet Magazine, Saveur Magazine
and here is an excerpt from Southern Living Magazine. "This is, hands down, the best bacon I've ever tasted....Benton's Smoky Mountain Hams come from a much closer source: Madisonville, Tennessee. You don't have to take my word for it though. Just ask the farmers and chefs. Some of the nation's top culinary stars make magic with Benton's hams. Local farmers bring their personal hocks to be cured by the five-man shop that competes with industry giants. The secret? They do things the slow way—using meat-curing practices thousands of years old. "Everything is done by hand," says Allan Benton, who speaks about curing ham with a passion that other men reserve for sports. Until recently, he kept his clients' addresses on yellowed sticky notes taped to the wall. "We're a hillbilly operation through and through," Allan says. And wonderfully so. The transformation from pork to perfection takes place in a smoke-stained cinder-block building on the side of a Tennessee byway. In a traditional process that's never rushed, whole hams get slathered with salt, sugar, and the family's secret spices; then they cure—for 7 to 14 months—on wooden racks. Out back, where the scent of smoking meat hangs thick in the air, Allan opens a sooty door to reveal the mysteries behind his bacon. As the fresh air clears out the little room, a tiny potbelly stove appears. "This is my smoke generator," Allan says. "I bought it for $50 from a cousin." Order now, because publicity has driven demand for Benton's products, especially the smoked bacon. Allan loves telling the story of a Vegas casino that paid hundreds of dollars for an emergency overnight shipment. But then, who knows better than a casino how to bring home the bacon?" -- Southern Living Magazine, November 2007

Stone Old Guardian

2013 Classic Release
Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine...$5.59 / 22 oz

Barley wines are traditionally hefty brews, but ours is downright excessive. The huge maltiness of this beer is only tamed by an equally prodigious addition of hops, creating a rich, slightly sweet, caramel-hued ale infused with assertive bitterness and bright hop notes, all culminating in a pleasing dryness. While it will evolve into an even more glorious brew with age, this beer's delicious onslaught of flavors will seriously challenge your ability to wait any longer to drink it.

Pierre's Wit, Reverence Series:
Not too long ago the beer world lost one of its modern icons, Pierre Celis. Pierre, almost single-handedly, resurrected what is today one of the most popular styles of craft beer...the Belgian Wit or White Beer - a deliciously refreshing, wheat beer originally created by Belgian farmers in the middle centuries, whose primary crop was wheat. Today, the style has a generous range-of-flavor and is often infused with a variety of spices, primarily coriander and dried citrus fruits. In keeping true to Mr. Celis' homeland of Belgium we additionally brew ours with unmalted wheat using a very thorough mash regime. Here's to you Pierre! ABV- 5.1%, IBU's- 14, OG- 11.9 Plato

Belle Glos Pinot Noir....

In stock and online

Belle Glos Clark & Telephone Pinot Noir 2011....$39.99

Deep scarlet red in color, this wine leaves little to the imagination with rich, expansive aromas of blackberry, raspberry, plum and sweet baking spices like cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. The palate is similarly intense with flavors of ripe blackberries, raspberries, warm cherry pie, blueberry and fresh cranberry, perfectly balanced with velvety tannins and a smooth toasty oak finish. Best described as “Christmas in your mouth!”

The 2011 has not been rated, but the 2010 and 2009 version scored 93 from The Wine Spectator.
2011 was great year for Belle Glos, the "lesser" Belle Glos 2011 Meiomi Pinot Noir already received a score of 92 points (and it only scored a 88 and 87 in the previous two years).  This one is delicious and will score big!

Big time 2010 Cabernets

2010 Diamond Creek wines are in stock at Forsyth now. They have not been rated but Diamond Creek has been on a roll and all of their 2009s scored 95+ or higher.

"And the best is yet to come. It’s possible, I suppose, that some $100 Cabs may finally be worth buying!” -- Dan Berger, Wine Writer on 2010 California Cabernet

Order Diamond Creek online

Diamond Creek Gravelly Meadow 2010.....$189.99 / 750ml

Diamond Creek Gravelly Meadow 2010.....$449.99 / Magnum

Our second coolest micro-climate is our five-acre Gravelly Meadow vineyard. Originally a pre-historic river bed, this stony, gravelly soil drains rapidly and the vines struggle for moisture.
Gravelly Meadow is our lowest yielding vineyard. The wines are described as "earthy, cedary, jammy and ripe blackberry with a spicy expansive finish."

Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace 2010....$189.99 / 750ml
Diamond Creek Red Rock Terrace 2010....$449.99 / Magnum
Red Rock Terrace, a warm microclimate, is 7 acres of north facing vineyard. The red tinted soil is high in iron content. The wine from Red Rock Terrace is the most accessible and earliest drinkable of all our wines.
Our winemaker describes Red Rock Terrace as "having velvety tannins, rich and well balanced, medium dark ruby color with cherry, mint and black currant flavors."

Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill 2010....$189.99 / 750ml
Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill 2010....$449.99 / Magnum
Volcanic Hill is comprised of 8 acres of south facing hillside vineyard. It is the warmest of all our micro-climates. The color of the soil is gray, and the consistency is that of fluffy, volcanic ash, originally deposited from the eruption of Mt. Konocti 8 million years ago.
Volcanic Hill is the longest lived of our wines. Our winemaker describes these wines as "full bodied, loaded with intense ripe berry fruit, cassis, violets and a smoky richness, finishing with good length and firm tannins."   The Volcanic Hill bottling includes a small amount of the extra-ordinary Petit Verdot grape.

We also have 3 bottles....
Diamond Creek Gravelly 2008....$169.99 / 750ml
A deep, dark beauty, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Gravelly Meadow totally saturates the palate with the essence of blue and black fruit, cassis, bacon fat, mint, flowers and melted road tar. It is at once soft yet massively structured. At times, the 2008 is surprisingly approachable for a young wine from this estate, but then the Diamond Mountain tannins kick in, and it is a different story. Clean veins of minerality frame an insistent finish laced with tar, smoke and plenty of charred aromas and flavors. This dark, brooding beauty should be at its best between ages 15 and anyone’s guess. Today, the Gravelly Meadow is the most complete of the 2008s. Anticipated maturity: 2023-2043.
Rated 95/100 The Wine Advocate

PlumpJack Wines

Order Plumpjack online
2010 Plumpjack Cabernet Estate....$93.99
A gorgeous core of juicy red fruit announces the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2010 stands out for its expressive, supple personality. There is more than enough fruit for the 2010 to drink well early. The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the more approachable wines of the vintage. It should drink well pretty much upon release. Raspberry jam, flowers and cinnamon add lift on the floral, perfumed finish. This is a lovely showing from Plumpjack. In 2010 the new oak, 80%, is a little more evident than is typically the case. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

Rated 94/100 The Wine Advocate
2010 Paul Hobbs Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon...$79.99
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley wraps around the palate with mocha, chocolate, violets and new leather. Despite its explosive personality, the straight Napa Valley bottling is pretty approachable for the vintage. I especially like the focus of the finish. In 2010, the Cabernet Sauvignon includes 6% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard sources are State Lane, Stagecoach and Mast. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.
Rated 92+/100 The Wine Advocate

Magnificent Manciat Macon

In stock at Forsyth and online
(reserve it online for pick up at our other stores or call)

The best Macon we have tried in a long time.   I took a bottle home last night and poured my wife a glass and just out of the blue she said "wow, this is great".  She did not know what I poured or what she was drinking.  She was surprised when she found out it was under $20.  I have been ordered to bring more home.

2011 Marie Pierre Manciat Macon "Les Morizottes"...$15.99

Another killer bargain is the 2011 Macon Les Morizottes. It reveals notes of wheat thins, brioche, caramelized citrus and buttery white peaches in a fresh, medium-bodied, fruity, dry, unoaked style.

Some sensational values have emerged from Marie-Pierre Manciat.

Italian Cider

Baladin Sidro Hard Cider....$14.99 / 750ml
A drink so tied to the land, the tradition and the biblical fruit par excellence, the fruit of sin ... Link between the Belgian franc and the Piedmont tradition of apple juice, our Cider originates from spontaneous fermentation of apples.Fresh and sincere occurs in clear glass and enlivened by a fine perlage. It smells of flowers and meadows in the spring in the mouth leaving a delicate and persistent.

“The apples used are sweet varieties and sour in the same time. They are like “renetta” apple, cultivated in Piedmont and in Savoy. “Savoie” is in France, close to the Alps and half an hour drive from Turin. Savoy is the homeland of the ancient king of Piedmont-Sardinia. Baladin cider is made with an apple variety dating back to the “Dukes of Savoy and King of Piedmont ages.”

Alcohol content: 4.5% alc./vol.

Very Limited Kirkwood Station bottles

Very small production about 20 cases of the beer and 10 cases of the mead produced.

Kirkwood Station 51...$9.99 / 750ml
Kirkwood Station Penrose Orange Blossom Mead...$9.99 / 750ml

Some info from Dave Johnson - brewmaster
"The beer is a wine barrel aged Saison with Brett, it's called 51. The barrel came from Mt. Pleasant, it's French Oak and had Chardonnell in it previously. The beer was brewed last January (2012), it's a Imp. Saison 8+% and it was in the barrel for almost 11 months. I dry hopped it and added Brett and let it go. We bottled it Wed. (Jan 9, 2013) and it is bottle conditioning. It most likely will be available mid Feb.   I will also have a even smaller quantity of Mead that we are bottling next week, I don't know how many cases till we do it, but most likely around 10. It's a Orange Blossom Mead called Penrose.

The Calling

From commentator Jim Nantz and wine importer Peter Deutsch
2010 The Calling Cabernet Sauvignon Rio Lago Vineyard
Deep burgundy in color and full-bodied, this impressive Cabernet Sauvignon presents black cherry, currant and vanilla spice aromas. Soft, well-integrated tannins and a velvety texture combine with delicious flavors of black cherry, ripe raspberry, and a hint of clove for a powerful palate and a lingering finish. Balanced acidity makes this wine a perfect match with your favorite recipe or seasonal dish.

As an Emmy Award winning commentator and a five-time National Sportscaster of the Year, Jim has been calling everything from the Masters Tournament, to the Final Four, to the Super Bowl, since joining the CBS Television Network in 1985.

He is the youngest broadcaster ever recognized by both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In 2008 he co-authored the New York Times bestseller Always By My Side. The book chronicled his father’s long struggles with Alzheimers disease. On January 19th, 2011, as a response to the enormous following of the book and as a tribute to his dad, Jim opened the Nantz National Alzheimer Center (NNAC) with The Methodist Hospital in Houston. The NNAC is a cutting-edge, world-renowned research and treatment center that hopes to one day find a cure.

Now Jim is following another "calling". For years he had been fine-tuning a concept to create a wine brand that would pride itself on its high quality and great value. He had searched for a business partner who shared his vision and passion and found that person in Peter. He is thrilled to be building something special with Peter while at the same time finding a way to advance the NNAC through another platform.

Some new ones and some back in stock....

Chieftain Glendullan Speyside 11 year Old...$46.99
Established in 1897, it was the last distillery to be built in Dufftown in the 19th century and the distillery which prompted the “Dufftown is built on seven stills” line. The location was chosen not just for its beauty, but also for its practical convenience. It was sited to take advantage of water power and was also able to share neighbouring Mortlach’s private railway siding. Originally with two stills, an additional distillery with six stills was built on the field between “Old Glendullan” and the employees’ homes in 1971-72. The distance between the two units was defined as “a short one when the weather’s good and a long one when it isn’t”. The old distillery was closed in 1985 and is used as UMGD’s maintenance workshops. Glendullan’s process water comes from the River Fiddich. It was King Edward VIII’s favourite whisky and plays an important role in the Old Parr blend.

More about Glenlivet:
The origins of Glenlivet Distillery can be traced back to 1815 but it is well known that illicit distilling was going on long before then. In 1817 George Smith leased some land at Upper Drumin Farm, where he continued illicit distilling to supplement his crofters wage. During 1823 an Excise Act was pushed through by the Duke of Gordon - Smiths's landlord - to stop illicit distilling. Gordon then persuaded Smith to take out the first licence and he also helped to set up the distillery at Drumin. Due to the success of Glenlivet, a number of distilleries in the region appended the name Glenlivet to their own. In 1880 J.G. Smith took legal action and the court ruled that there was only one 'The Glenlivet'

The palate is medium-bodied with grippy, dry tannins. There is plenty of substance here with a dash of black pepper and cedar on the finish. Very St. Estephe like: this is an excellent cru bourgeois. Drink now-2018. Tasted September 2012.
Rated 91/100 Neal Martin
This chateau is under the same ownership as Saint-Julien’s Château Talbot. The wine is firm, fruity, rich and concentrated, showing all the best qualities of 2010. There is a complex array of black fruits which are sustained by the firm, solid tannins. Age for at least 6–7 years.
Rated 93/100 The Wine Enthusiast

A new bottling released in the summer of 2011, Aphrodite Bitters are a unique, hand-crafted cocktail ingredient which take their name from the Greek goddess of sexuality and love.
Aphrodisiacs are substances that are alleged to increase sexual desire and like many traditional bitters the botanicals selected for this bottling have been chosen for their alleged medicinal qualities, in this case as an aphrodisiac. The finest chocolate, cocoa nibs, ginger root, red chilli, Arabica coffee and ginseng are compounded to create a complex flavour profile with each botanical playing off and enhancing one another.
Paying homage to bitters of days gone by this bottling is a welcome addition to Dr. Elmegirab's bottle line and are in demand around the globe to be used in a number of classic cocktails and original libations such as the....

Boker's Bitters were famously the preferred brand of Professor Jerry Thomas and featured throughout his book, 'How to Mix Drinks or The Bon Vivant's Companion', now recognised as the World's first bartender's guide.
Despite being unequalled when used in the refined drinks of the bar, the devastating effect of The Volstead Act, commonly referred to as Prohibition, closed the Boker's company in the 1920s.
Referencing receipts dating back to 1853, these recreated bitters are compounded using the finest natural botanicals and are once again being used globally by bartenders in classics including the Japanese Cocktail, Martinez, Crusta and Improved Cocktail and original libations such as the...

Released in the winter of 2009, Dandelion & Burdock Bitters are a unique, hand-crafted cocktail ingredient created by Adam Elmegirab to satisfy the global bar community’s growing demand for new and exciting products.
Dandelion & Burdock is a traditional British beverage dating back to the 1300s and is believed to have been created by the Italian priest Saint Thomas Aquinas. They were famed for their alleged medicinal properties, like the many cocktail bitters that followed in later years, and were a favourite drink of Adam during his childhood.
Referencing a number of Dandelion & Burdock receipts, these bitters attempt to capture their flavour profile in bitters formulae. Compounded using the finest natural botanicals, these bitters are now being used by bartenders around the globe in a number of classic cocktails and original libations such as the

During the mid-1800s Gainer’s Spanish Bitters were celebrated for their alleged medicinal properties and in particular were noted for their complex flavour profile that included layers of chamomile, citrus, spice, violet and berries. Using knowledge of patent bitters and referencing old formulae, medical journals and advertisements, these bitters now attempt to recreate the defunct bottling.
Compounded using the finest natural botanicals, these bitters are now sought after by bartenders around the globe to be used in a number of classic cocktails and original libations such as the:
