The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is stunning. An exotic, open bouquet melds into dark red fruit in this racy, sexy Cabernet. Espresso, graphite, crushed flowers, spices, mint and licorice are some of the notes that emerge from the glass. All of the elements flow together gracefully to the refined, supple finish. The 2009 will take a few years to come around, but it is dazzling and immensely appealing, even today. The blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot, all from Forman’s vineyard at the base of Howell Mountain. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.
I only tasted three wines with Ric and Toby Forman, but that didn’t stop this tasting from being one of the highlights of the twelve days I spent in Napa Valley. These wines are all about refinement, subtlety and sheer class.
Ska Nefarious Ten Pin Imperial Porter 22oz....$5.69 "Nobody bowls better sober. No on is suggesting you get drunk; merely stating the facts. Our extra strong imperial porter will make you better at bowling. King of the alley-this imperial porter reigns supreme, creamy, chocolaty sweet, with hints of coffee and bing cherry, the Nefarious is wickedly outrageous." -- Ska
Usually the best things we find for our store are products that don't come looking for us, they are products that we go looking for them. Durham's Tracklements Custom Smoked Provisions is one of those products. In fact, we have been trying for months to sell their salmon in our store. They kept telling us that they cannot keep up with demand at this point and they are not taking on any more accounts. Our begging finally paid off and we our on our 3rd shipment, Supply is limited.

Templeton Rye - Prohibition Era Whiskey...$33.99 / 750ml When Prohibition outlawed the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages in 1920, many enterprising residents of a small town in Iowa chose to become outlaws – producing a high caliber and much sought-after whiskey known as Templeton Rye, or “The Good Stuff” to those in the know. Produced from the original Prohibition era recipe and aged in charred new oak barrels, Templeton Rye provides a smooth finish and a clean getaway.
As the original American spirit, rye whiskey is the principal ingredient in several famous cocktails – including the Manhattan, the Sazerac and, of course, the Old Fashioned. Strong yet splendid, rye whiskey has undergone a major resurgence around the world, based on its rare combination of bold, almost spicy character and clean, smooth finish.
THE PRODUCTION PROCESS
Only dedication to the entire process can achieve the proper balance that gives Templeton Rye its great rye character and surprisingly smooth finish that Jim Murray of the Whiskey Bibledescribed as "a huge, unmistakable rye."
With barely a dozen brands in the category of rye whiskey, we strive to be the best among an already unique bunch.
Starting with a formula born out of a family’s need to maintain their livelihood during the Prohibition era, our master distillers utilize the original Kerkhoff family recipe – unique for the remarkably high rye content of its mash. For while today a mere 51 percent of the mash bill must be rye for a whiskey to legally be called a “rye,” Templeton Rye uses a mash made up of more than 90 percent rye grains (and malted barley for the remainder).
And while the process has changed some since Prohibition, the unyielding attention to detail hasn’t budged.
Bowman Brothers Virginia Bourbon Small Batch...$28.99 Virginia Straight Bourbon Whiskey John, Abraham, Joseph and Isaac Bowman were Virginia militia officers in the American Revolutionary War. In 1779, they led thirty pioneer families to Madison County, Kentucky and established Bowman’s Station. Later, the brothers helped establish and settle Fayette County. They were legends, admired and respected by fellow settlers for their courage and bravery. This hand-crafted bourbon whiskey is a tribute to these four heroic Bowman brothers from Virginia. Tasting Notes: This small batch bourbon has been distilled three times using the finest corn, rye and malted barley. Our unique copper still produces a flavor like no other bourbon. After many years of aging in new charred oak barrels, this 90 proof Virginia bourbon whiskey will please even the most discerning palate. The nose is warm like the Virginia summer. Its complex flavor has hints of vanilla and oak, while the finish is smooth and mellow like a quiet night on the front porch. Enjoy straight, over ice or with a splash of water. Pure amber color. Aromas of caramelized apples and nuts, vanilla custard, and delicate anise cookie follow through on a round, supple entry to a dry-yet-fruity with good depth and nice chocolately toffee and gingerbread notes. Finishes with a drying coconut cream and Asian spice accented fade. Lots of nice spicy, fruity character will make this a great choice for mixologists.
John J. Bowman Virginia Bourbon Whiskey Single Barrel...$44.99
Virginia Straight Bourbon Whiskey Early pioneer Colonel John J. Bowman first explored Kentucky in 1775. Four years later he moved his family to Lincoln County where they were among the earliest settlers of Kentucky. He presided over Kentucky’s first county court and was also appointed the first military commander and governor of Kentucky County. He was the great, great uncle of Abram Bowman, founder of Virginia’s A. Smith Bowman Distillery. This single barrel bourbon whiskey commemorates the early American pioneer John J. Bowman. Tasting Notes: This bourbon whiskey has been hand selected from some of the oldest barrels in our warehouse. Each barrel rests years on end while Virginia’s moderate, but ever-changing climate extracts the complex flavors from the oak and mellows the whiskey. When the time is right, these prime barrels are hand-bottled with care. This single barrel bourbon is 100 proof, but still smooth as the fall breeze. Its fragrant nose is followed by hints of toffee, leather, figs and almonds with a long dry finish. Drink straight or over ice.

"I'm sure many of you have heard about our collaboration with Sierra Nevada Brewing Company! This 2 year, 2 brewery, 2 family project is about to hit the streets and hopefully make it to a bottle shop near you! Set for National Release in July (I bet you thought you would never hear me say something like that!), BRUX was brewed in Chico (at Sierra Nevada) and will go through their distribution channels, which will, of course, greatly increase your chances of getting a couple of bottles. BRUX is a "domesticated wild ale", or an ale fermented with Belgian yeast, finished by a secondary bottle fermentation with Brettanomyces bruxellensis. It's a little more than 8% alcohol, very dry, earthy, spicy, and tasty. But wait, there's more! About 99% of BRUX was bottled in 750 ml bottles, so there will be almost none available on draft. Almost none, meaning that our brewpubs, Russian River and Sierra Nevada, will have it available on draft in July! The Russian River BRUX draft release is set for July 5th at 5pm at our pub in Downtown Santa Rosa. We will have no bottles or growlers available to go at our brewery due to state liquor laws. Then we move to Chico for Sierra Nevada's release on July 9th where they will have plenty of bottles for sale. Not sure about those details other than Vinnie and I are planning to attend! I do hope you get a chance to taste this exceptional collaboration with our friends at Sierra Nevada!

Hermitage IPA Single Hop Series Sorachi Ace Hops...$5.99 / 22oz
SINGLE HOP IPA: SORACHI ACE LIMITED RELEASES
Our brewing team is passionate about ingredients. This series was created to celebrate, and to acknowledge the wide variation of hops. The same ingredients and process go into each IPA from the series, with only one difference- what type of hop is used. “This is a great series for both beer aficionados and novice beer drinkers,” comments Brewer Greg Filippi. “It gives the drinker an appreciation of each hop type. They can really pick out the individual flavors in other beers once they taste the hop on its own.”
Varieties will change seasonally. Could be Citra, Admiral, Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin, Galaxy, etc.
Current varieties are:
Sorachi Ace: a Japanese hop known for its characteristic citrusy lemon flavor. Sorachi Ace is the third release of the series this year, following Ahtanum and Citra. Brewmaster Peter Licht is excited about the latest batch. Licht says,”Sorachi is an extremely interesting hop- lots of unusual fruit flavors including lemon and lemon zest. It is also the only hop to come from Japan. One of the reasons we started the single hop beer series was to get to use exotic hops like Sorachi Ace.”
7.0 ABV/IBU 55
Established in 2009 Hermitage Brewing Company is located in San Jose. Along with producing its own label of small batch beers, Hermitage contracts with beer and soda clients to produce their products. Hermitage is regarded as a professional and reliable go-to contract brewer for many regional and state brewers.
Hermitage is also the bottling source for all Tied House beers. When Tied House closed down its iconic downtown San Jose location in mid-2009, they transferred all their brewing equipment down the road, to South 7th Street, where Hermitage is today. Hermitage soon added a bottling line, complete with disco ball and audio of ABBA’s greatest hits, which automatically starts when the bottling line is turned on.
Hermitage Brewery is becoming widely recognized for its Hoptopia, Maltopia, Ale of the Imp, Single Hop “H” Series IPAs, and craft soda brands. In 2011, Hermitage took four Gold Medals at the California State Commercial Craft Brewers Competition. Celebrator Beer News awarded One Door Quadrupel with four out of five stars in 2011, and Hoptopia DIPA four out of five stars in 2012.
As the new branch of Tied House Brewing, Hermitage is happy to be a part of such a long legacy of great brewers and their award-winning beers. Our current team is Brewmaster Ron Manabe, Brewmaster Peter Licht, Brewer Greg Filippi, and our newest team member, four-time consecutive GABF winner: Brewer Steve Donohue.

Well, they are very rare, highly rated and hard to get Champagne. We only get a few bottles a year of his stuff because the demand is so high. His Champagnes sell for $200 + per bottle.
"Every decade or so, a winemaker comes along who, through the force of his ideas, and the brilliance of his work, has the power to change the course of wine history. Anselme Selosse is such an individual—and the man most responsible for the revolution that’s changing Champagne for the better. Since taking over Champagne Jacques Selosse in 1980, Anselme has used the uncompromising brilliance of his wines—as well as no small amount of charisma—to challenge Champagne’s old defintions for excellence. If ten or twenty years from now, small, quality-driven growers have finally taken their share of the power—and the big houses have fully embraced the ideas of low yields, chemical-free vineyards and terroir-based wines—Anselme will deserve much of the credit." - importer for Jacques Selosse Champagne
Here is what The Wine Advocate has said about Anselme Selosse Champagnes... "Montrachet with bubbles might be a good description for this profound, utterly moving Champagne." - 98/100 The Wine Advocate "...is ridiculously great." - 97/100 The Wine Advocate "...is breathtaking...It is an extraordinary wine in every way....This is a dazzling" - Rated 97/100 The Wine Advocate
2006 Dubl Greco Sparkling...$45.99
From Feudi di San Gregorio and Anselme Selosse
This is the only sparkling wine Anselme Selosse makes outside of his own at Jacques Selosse in Champagne!! Rare and amazing!
Feudi di San Gregorio, a modern expression of a centuries-old tradition of passion and dedication to the land, is Campania’s premier winemaking estate. Situated in the tiny village of Sorbo Serpico in Campania's Irpinia region, this highly-acclaimed winery was established in 1986. Since then, it has aggressively tapped into the enormous potential of Campania's unique terroir and ancient varieties by placing a contemporary spin on indigenous grapes such as Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo and Aglianico.
In 2003, Feudi di San Gregorio invested in the production of its first sparkling product. Using the method champenoise and the regions historic varietals of Falanghina, Greco di Tufo and Aglianico grapes, FSG produced this new innovative product, DUBL. The wines are named DUBL in honor of the two wineries that work on this project, Feudi and our French partner, the great Champagne house of Anselme Selosse. Joining forces with famed Champagne producer Anselme Selosse was a natural union for these unique and high end wines. DUBL is our new journey into the future of sparkling wines.
The tradition of Greco Brut stems from the occupation of Naples by Louis XII de Valoisi in the 15th century, who demanded that Neapolitan made a Sparkling wine in his honor (he was from Champagne afterall). The local winemakers selected Greco as the suitable grape for this task given the tartness of the grape reminiscent of the Chardonnay of Champagne and the chalky composition of the Tufo soil similar to the terroir encountered in Reims.

(Very Rare)Things go up a notch or two with the 2010 Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet, which appears to hover on the palate with the grace of a ballerina. The Bienvenues is all about weightless elegance and implied structure, but it is all there in the glass. At times a bit intellectual, the Bienvenues is nevertheless immensely appealing. Layers of soft, perfumed fruit flow effortlessly to the nuanced, feminine finish. A hint of floral honey and almonds lingers on the palate. I can’t wait to see how this ages.
