Boulevard Smokestack Harvest Dance Wheat Wine...$8.49 / 750ml
available online also

"There was three men come out o' the west their fortunes for to try,And these three men made a solemn vow, John Barleycorn must die,They ploughed, they sowed, they harrowed him in, throwed clods upon his head,'Til these three men were satisfied John Barleycorn was dead.
"This grim little verse belongs to one of the oldest of English folk tunes. It depicts the cultivation of barley as a series of abuses and indignities committed upon pour little John Barleycorn, who eventually triumphs, reborn as beer and whiskey. Our Harvest Dance Wheat Wine is a celebration of John's cousin wheat, the great staple crop of Middle America. Wheat wines are a somewhat recent stylistic development, akin to barleywines in strength, but brewed with a large portion of wheat malt, which provides a soft mouthfeel to balance the big body of these warming brews. We add a generous helping of Hallertau and Citra hops, and age the beer on both French and American oak, resulting in a beer that opens up with a warming burst of tropical fruit flavors, adding subtle Sauvignon Blanc notes before rounding slowly to a dry, oaky finish. This is a perfect beer for sharing with friends and family as we gather together for the fall and winter holidays. Pairs well with aged cheeses or seasonal squash and pumpkin dishes. And though it may appear that Miss Wheat is about to be cut down in her prime, have no fear: just pour a glass of Harvest Dance and you'll find she's alive and well."

An audacious claim based on three years work at happily perfecting our take on a tripel. 8.9% ABV, lush aromas, full body, elegant tastes – with a hint of spicing – and a perfect body paired with lively effervescence. The tripel is among the most popular of Belgian ales. Brewed with simple ingredients and fierce attention, there is little room for error, but plenty of opportunity. Crap Beer

Order Mikkeller online

Back in stock VERY RARE!!
Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel...$13.99 / pint

Rated 100 percentile on RateBeer
Rated A on BeerAdvocate

"This imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made from droppings of weasel-like civet cats. The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries. Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean. Workers collect the bean-containing droppings for Civet or Weasel Coffee. The exceedingly rare Civet Coffee has a strong taste and an even stronger aroma.
Ingredients :Water, malts, hops, yeast and Vietnamese ca phe chon coffee." -- Mikkeller

"Beer Geek Brunch from Mikkeller is the highest rated Danish beer at And with the massive media coverage up to its release in early January, demand has obviously been much higher than supply. Beer Geek Brunch is in other words almost sold out. So Mikkel is getting ready for making the next batch Beer Geek Brunch in Norway. And a huge consignment of Ca Pe Chon coffee should also be on its way. On the picture you can see Rob with a weasel-poo full of the coffee beans that are giving Beer Geek Brunch its unique taste." -- Mikkeller

"So what is special about this particular big beer (10+ % ABV)? “Shit coffee.” Here is a post from Wikipedia all about Kopi Luwak, a.k.a. Civet coffee, a.k.a. the most expensive coffee in the world. And here is the animal coffee that they are using.
“Civet coffee is coffee made from coffee berries which have been eaten by and passed through the digestive tract of the Asian Palm Civet [...] The inner bean of the berry is not digested, but it has been proposed that enzymes in the stomach of the civet add to the coffee’s flavor by breaking down the proteins that give coffee its bitter taste. The beans are defecated still covered in some inner layers of the berry. The beans are washed, and given only a light roast so as to not destroy the complex flavors that develop through the process.” -

Fantome Noel barely makes it before the holidays.

Fantome Noel....$14.99
A very dark and entirely unique holiday seasonal beer, at a whopping 10% alc. by volume. Reportedly spiced with honey, caramel, coriander, black pepper, and other secret ingredients. “Beautifully warming with an amazing, almost overwhelming, depth of character. Well balanced bittersweet, fruity ale which must surely be the ultimate winter warmer.” (The Beers of Wallonia.) Both authors of The Beers of Wallonia also give this Noël beer perfect 10’s. The alcohol content probably goes a long way toward explaining that very warm and satisfied feeling one finds on the very first sip. A rich, dark-flavored beer with lots of deep-roasted chocolate malt, but still fairly dry, with a hint of sourness at the core. It is very spicy, with some winter spruce flavor in the bargain. The wild yeast sourness also adds to its welcoming character." -- importer

Ommegang Adoration...$13.99 / 750ml
Strong Winter Ale

Ommegang announces our first Strong Winter Ale, named Adoration, becoming available from
mid-October through December, all across the US. Ommegang Adoration, brewed in the authentic style of Belgian winter, or noel beer, is dark, strong, malty and assertively spiced.

At 10% abv Adoration is not a lightweight beer, and is best sipped before a roaring fire, or on a sleigh ride over the hills to Grandma’s house. (But let someone else drive.) It would also be a tasty accompaniment to dark roasts and wild game. Even at the strong abv, the beer is well-balanced and not at all hot or fiery. The dark malts give it lush, malty flavors and aromas, strongly complemented by the five spices, including coriander, cumin, mace, cardamom and grains of paradise. Hopping is modest, as befits such a beer.

Ommegang Adoration is the first in a series of special beers to be released every two months
through the end of 2010. Look for Chocolate Indulgence in January-February and then an
entirely new group of beers throughout 2010.

Limited Duvel release....

A new limited release from Duvel....

Duvel Triple Hop....$18.99
Hedwig Neven, Master Brewer at Duvel Moortgat, says: "The hops impart their specific aroma and flavours to the beer. For the brewing of Duvel Triple Hop, we selected three prestigious varieties of hops: Saaz from the Czech Republic, Styrian Golding from Slovenia and Amarillo from the United States. We also use the 'dry-hopping' technique, which consists, in addition to conventional hopping, of adding additional hop cones at a later stage. That makes
the character of the beer very special: a rich range of impressions on the palate, additional hop flavours and - the most perceptible characteristic - a pervasive zesty bitterness."

Duvel, Triple Hop (Belgium)

It pours a fairly light golden colour with a huge, high rise white head. The nose is extremely
powerful, soaring from the glass with plenty of clove and coriander seed spice, touches of banana and spearmint, and a grassy background note. It strikes the palate in a thick, creamy stream, with an initial burst of sweetness quickly swept aside by a powerful, bitter hop presence. On the
mid-palate this is really chewy and dense, with citrus and spice notes and that sweetness lying just beneath. This is a very substantial beer, but the hops regain control of the finish adding a cleansing bitterness. Very fine stuff this, and worth seeking out. 9.5% ABV.

Aecht Schlenkerla Eiche

This one is for Islay Scotch lovers....
Aecht Schlenkerla Eiche Doppelbock...$5.19 / pint

"Following century old recipes all malts made at the Schlenkerla brewery are dried by wood fire. While for the classic “Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier” traditionally beech has been – and still is – used, the malt for “Schlenkerla Oak Smoke” is kilned with oak wood. The resulting Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in “Schlenkerla Oak Smoke” is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and Bernstein color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers for Christmas." -- Rated 99 on RateBeer

Bells Batch 10,000 is here!
Limited to 3 bottles per person.

I have it up online if want to reserve some now -- click here

-- in stock at Ballwin, Forsyth, Rock Hill and Provisions now!

The last of a series, Batch 10,000 Ale looks back to our roots, symbolizing the end of the home-brewing season with a creative take on "cleaning out the brewing supplies closet". After combing through the catalogs of many malt and hop suppliers, our brewers used over 100 different malts, grains, and other fermentables, and followed them up with a blend of 60 different hop varietals between the kettle additions and dry-hopping. The resulting beer presents a deep, chocolate brown hue and offers roasted and caramel notes from the malts mixed with an assertive hop character. Sharply bitter, the beer possesses a full mouthfeel without being heavy and will withstand aging in your cellar" -- Bells

Great sparkler!!

This is Segura Viudas' best sparkler!!
Segura Viudas ARIA is made from only the finest grapes grown on their ESTATE, unlike the brut Reserve, there is no purchased fruit in here!!

Segura Viudas ARIA Estate Brut...$8.99
"ARIA is a méthode champenoise sparkling wine from the Segura Viudas Estate in Torrelavit, in Spain's Alt Penedès region, and is styled after Segura Viudas' top-of-the-line cava, Reserva Heredad. ARIA is a blend of only the first gentle pressings of the Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo grapes. Macabeo provides a fine, honeyed aroma; Parellada lends subtle elegance; and the Xarel-lo provides the backbone of the cava and gives both body and good acidity.
ARIA Estate Brut is a dry, lively refreshment appropriate for any occasion. Its flavor is dominated by fresh pineapple, almonds, honey and straw, with hints of pears and fresh bread." -- Segura Viudas

"An elegant Cava, this feels rich and composed. Its simple pearlike fruit integrates with the bubbles and dosage, providing a clean, complete and satisfying length of flavor. Easy to enjoy on its own, yet substantial enough for veal sauteed with sage and mushrooms." - Wine & Spirits

Over the years, Segura Viudas has earned a reputation as one of the top producers of sparkling wine, or cava. The winery has been noted for its high production standards, its labor-intensive approach to winemaking, and its penchant for releasing some of Europe's finest artisan sparkling wines. Segura Viudas has earned many honors over the past five decades, including being named “Winery of the Year” by Wine & Spirits magazine.

The Police Synchronicity Wine!

Also online now

2007 The Police Synchronicity Red Blend.....$12.99 / 750ml

Quite literally, this wine represents and manifests the notion of “Synchronicity” as it was interpreted by The Police with their classic album and this wine’s namesake.

Simply put, “to count as synchronicity, the events should be unlikely to occur together by chance”.

While listening to the album, winemaker Mark Beaman noticed a clear theme of light and dark - or as the Rolling Stone Magazine reviewer wrote, “it is an album of shimmering surfaces and glacial shadows”. From a distance the music is pop-like, romantic and has many bright melodies. If you listen closely to the lyrics, you will notice dark, heavy, and sometimes sinister themes of obsession, jealousy, yearning and anxiety.

The term Synchronicity, Sting’s magnetic vocals and the theme of light and dark in the music were the main influences on Mark while making the wine. Synchronicity as a meaningful mix of seemingly unrelated events resulting in a significant sum lead Mark to a red wine blend of varieties not commonly seen together. The playful, seductive, and haunting union of Carignane, Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache and Viognier make this wine a compelling and delicious study.

Tasting Notes: Aromas of fresh rose petals and wild berries. Flavors of juicy strawberry, bright raspberry, with a lush lingering finish. The Grenache and Viognier definitely lighten up the heavy hitters making this a delicious, approachable, and very food friendly wine

Goose Island Limited releases....

We are hoping to see these before the end of the week...but no guarantee at this point.

With the release coming this time of the year it will be too tough to do the offering during store hours. So, I think the best plan will be to put the link up tomorrow night after I get home from work. Just start it as a wish list since I do not know how much I am getting.

So watch the our blog/twitter Tuesday (12/21) sometime between 9:30pm and 10pm for the link to get on the wish list. When it arrives, I will go down the list in order until it is gone. Getting on the wish list is still no guarantee you will get some.

Hopefully this will make it a little easier.

The other idea I was thinking for future limited releases: maybe do it like "line tickets" for a concert. Let everybody interested make a reservation and then do a drawing for the number of bottles I have from those names? That way if you are not able to be at the computer during the time I post, you will still have a chance. Not sure which is the fairest way? Leave me a comment if you have an opinion.

Beaujolais from Kermit Lynch

2009 Beaujolais from Kermit Lynch
2009 Dupeuble Beaujolais...$13.99
The Dupeuble 2009 Beaujolais cuvee for his U.S. importer is sweetly and generously berry-fruited; silken in texture; delightfully threaded with inner-mouth floral perfume; and finishes with saliva-inducing, invigorating panache, incorporating hints of pistachio oil and salt. Dupeuble claims none of the vines that produced this are younger than 60 years, and even his nouveau is from vines nearly as old. This will remain delightful for at least the next 2-3 years.
Rated 89/100 The Wine Advocate

2009 Breton Morgon Vieilles Vignes....$29.99
Breton’s 2009 Morgon Vieilles Vignes is one of those wines of its vintage positively peachy in its expression of sheer ripeness, boasting as well intense red raspberry and cherry, nut extracts, inner-mouth florality and spices (like its Regnie sibling), but also dark chocolate and toasted pecan underlying richness as well as suggestions of crushed stone and forest floor. There is lovely lift to the long finish and ample sense of brightness and refreshment to accompany its plush texture and glyceral richness, thus belying the wine’s low sulfur. I would expect this beauty to be worth following for 5-6 years, provided one stores it impeccably.
Rated 91-92/100 The Wine Advocate

Chanrion Cote de Brouilly...$19.99
Nicole Chanrion has turned out a 2009 Cote de Brouilly representing, as usual, a blend selected from among six different old vines lots (bottled unfiltered for the U.S.), each of which was harvested the last days of August or beginning of September and came in close to 14% alcohol. Mint chocolate, bittersweet floral perfume, blackberry, cassis, and blueberry in the nose lead to a richly textured and fruited palate with accents of roasted pecan, toasted hazelnut, dark chocolate, peat, and crushed stone. This blend gained considerably in sense of ripeness and textural plushness between its showing in April and in June, at which time it was however still not bottled. I suspect that this installment might not gain the degree of mineral intrigue that often accrues to Chanrion’s wines as they evolve, and I would plan to enjoy it over the next 3 years.

#7 Wine of the Year 2008 - The Wine Spectator

"The work that Alfred Tesseron and his winemaking team have done at this estate since 1994 is remarkable. At this fabulous terroir just south of Mouton-Rothschild, Tesseron has made major investments, and instituted incredibly severe selections in both the vineyard and winery. The result is a succession of extraordinary wines. It is difficult to know whether the 2005 Pontet-Canet will ultimately eclipse the hedonism and density of the flamboyant 2003, but it is unquestionably a stunning effort. Inky/black-colored with a classic Pauillac perfume of licorice, black currant liqueur, graphite, cedar, and spice box, it is full-bodied, with magnificent concentration, formidable tannins, and an Arnold Schwartzenegger-like structure (when he was 25 years younger). This backward, formidably endowed 2005 will require patience. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2040."
Rated 96+/100 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

"Good full ruby-red. Complex, enticing aromas of black raspberry, licorice, minerals, bitter chocolate, lead pencil and pungent cedar; just this side of exotic. Wonderfully silky, sweet and thick, with a powerful minerality framing the currant, graphite and spice flavors. This boasts superb inner-mouth energy and great length, with the full, ripe tannins totally enrobed by the wine's mid-palate richness."

Odell Mountain Standard Double Black IPA...$12.99 / 750ml

"As the Colorado hop growers prove they can produce world class hops, we as a Colorado Craft Brewer want to showcase what our state can offer, not only with our hand crafted beers, but also with the ingredients used in creating them. Mountain Standard, Double Black IPA, features the homegrown hops our Brewers helped pick from farms along Colorado’s western slope. MST pours committingly dark with a light tan head and a slightly roasted hoppy nose. An ephemeral bitterness, the result of combining roasted malts with an assertive American hop profile, contributes to MST’s act of balance and harmony. As the season’s darkness sets in, why shouldn’t your beer become darker too?"

2009 Villa des Anges Cabernet Sauvignon....$9.99
2009 has not been rated yet, but it is better than the 2008, and this is what The Wine Advcocate said about the 2008...
"Villa des Anges 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is as remarkable and improbable a wine value as I have tasted in years....done the seemingly impossible – even forgetting the price – by crafting a full-bodied, subtly oily-textured, palpably dense, lip-smacking, not vegetal, yet not sweet Cabernet in the’ll want some of this just to stump other wine snobs in blind tastings....and who knows, perhaps the 2009 will be even better. ." -- The Wine Advocate
