Theillier La Bavaisienne Blonde...$11.99 / 750ml
"Rustic refreshing Ale from France's oldest working brewery. A bold, straw-colored Blonde from Brasserie Theillier Bavay, France...7%ABV

"French bière de garde - literally, “beer for keeping”- is hardy, big-flavored ale. It was traditionally brewed in late winter, then laid down for consumption in the summer months when the heat made brewing impossible. In the little town of Bavay, only a few miles from the border with Belgium, the Theillier family has crafted its fine bière de garde for generations. The charming brewery is built into the Theillier family home, which was constructed in the 1600’s on sturdy Roman foundations. The newest heir to the family tradition, Michel Theillier, hand-delivers this popular beer within a small area around Bavay. La Bavaisienne is artfully brewed in very small batches using a resourceful combination of ancient and more modern equipment. This rare treat is a rich amber color with a gorgeous, dense head. Hearty malt taste in perfect balance with fresh hop bitterness, and a natural hint of spiciness that is distinctly French. To be cellared and enjoyed like wine.
La Bavaisienne has won the Platinum Medal, with 99 points – the highest score ever – at the 2004 World Beer Championships.
